RHUL launches multi-million pound conference and banqueting facilities
|
| Royal Holloway has just announced that its new Lecture Theatre Complex and dining area, which represents some £35 million investment, is to open on schedule in September 2006. This will enable the University to extend its successful conferencing and events business. The Lecture Theatre Complex contains an auditorium seating 400, eight large seminar rooms, and spacious foyer areas. The new dining area, which can seat up to 400, is situated nearby. These two projects are part of a wider £100m investment programme at Royal Holloway, with year-round guest accommodation set to be completed in 2007, and new environmentally-friendly halls of residence also under construction. Nine companies have already booked conferences in the Lecture Theatre Complex, including the Association of University Engineers and the CAQDAS Networking Project. On 20 September, Royal Holloway is to hold an open day to celebrate the completion of the new facilities. Conference and event organisers are welcome to attend to view the new developments. In addition, attendees can take part in a number of interactive seminars, talk to exhibitors and enjoy the refreshments on offer.

University of Kent uses Kx online room booking software to achieve fast turnaround for students
|
| In September 2005, the University of Kent used Kx online accommodation booking software to perform a minor miracle - issuing nearly 4000 contracts and allocating the same number of bedrooms in just four days. Kevin Stuckey, residences and conference manager at Kent, outlines the benefits: - no postage costs, with masses of paperwork being totally eliminated
- the process of offering and allocating bedrooms was completed in just 4 days
- staff could easily track the application in real time - ie accepted/rejected and when
- time freed up meant the team could focus on enhancing customer service levels.
Similar online software for booking housing, meeting rooms, conferences is already being used to great effect by other academic establishments, such as Warwick University, and also by private companies in the hospitality and banqueting industry. Winchester University switches to Kx online student accommodation advertising
|
| Using Kx’s online advertising features, Winchester has just launched a service to its returning students enabling them to view available off campus student accommodation online. This feature allows students to view off campus properties via the university website and see the facilities they offer without the need to call the university accommodation office. For Winchester, this is the first stage in its plan to increase the number of administration tasks undertaken online. The next step will be to enable students to book viewings online, a system which is already working very successfully for Warwick University. Hester Wellings, housing assistant, is delighted with the way in which the new system works. She said, “This addition to Kx is not only providing a much faster and better service to our students, who can look up what accommodation is available online, but is also saving us time in terms of not having to deal with as many enquiries over the phone.” For information about Kx online booking software, please contact sales@kinetic-solutions.co.uk or call 01234 436121.

Chris Wildsmith addresses Hostec conference on the benefits of marketing software
|
| February this year saw Chris Wildsmith, Kinetic Solutions’ managing director, stand alongside some of the giants of the technology industry to deliver a session at the Hostec conference on increasing sales through technology. Kinetic’s own Kx software used by academic housing departments and banqueting and conference specialists includes a specialist marketing module, which offers bookings, email mailshots and contact management software. Hostec, the European food service and hospitality industry’s annual technology event, aims to bring together buyers, suppliers, decision-makers and consultants from the hospitality, food service and leisure industries with companies that offer advances in the technology that supports their industry. Chris’s presentation fitted in well with these aims, as he spoke about how technology within the conference and events arena can increase sales volumes, gain competitor advantage, and increase customer satisfaction.
