Understanding the Kx Options: Part 2 – The Classroom Interface

What does the Classroom Interface do?

Whether you have to wait until the academic schedule is completed, or are booking simultaneously with the Registrar, the classroom interface updates the information you need on availability of space automatically. The interface can be a one-way stream from the Registrar to Kx, or a two-way capture of data from the other system and Kx. Either way, you get the information necessary to make the right booking decision.

How does the Classroom Interface work?

As a class is scheduled by the Registrar, the status is sent to your Kx event management application and the room is no longer available for anyone to book. In a one-way scenario, the information is only updated in the Kx system. With two-way sharing, the academic scheduling software is also updated with the booking information from the Kx system as well. For both teams, the data is read only, preventing either group from moving or deleting bookings from outside of their own system. Banner, Datatel and R25 are a few of the systems that are succesfully sharing information with Kx today.

What does the Classroom Interface do to improve my operations?

The primary benefit to the shared system is to streamline the operations of both departments. By providing two-way communication, it is fast and easy to view the booked space. Double booking or over booking a room is prevented as well. Rooms can be mapped so only the shared blocks within an institution are seen by both parties and data is only shared between these rooms. Administration is reduced and efficiency improved.
